Dong Xuan and the North Gate
The north of the Old Quarter still works for a living. Dong Xuan Market, the largest covered market in Hanoi, feeds the whole quarter with wholesale cloth, dry goods and food. Around it, mat sellers, bean traders and paper shops keep the old guild pattern alive, and a short walk east stands O Quan Chuong, the last surviving gate of the old citadel. Visit in the morning, when the market is at full speed.
