The 4 Tastings of the Old Quarter
▶The film for this experience is in production. This is our illustration of its streets. Why I created this one
I built this walk because visitors kept asking me the same question: where do Hanoians actually eat at night? Not the famous places with the longest tourist queues, but the stalls my family returns to. This route is my honest answer, four streets of grazing where every stop earns its place by taste and fair price.
Graze the east side with a licensed local guide: bia hoi corner, grill smoke, noodle steam and the dessert carts, at the pace of your appetite. Food stops are chosen for taste and honesty of price, and the route adjusts to your dietary needs.

Suzy lives and works in Hanoi and designs every route on this site from the streets she films. She joins your day when her schedule allows; a licensed guide leads every tour, and Bao Son Travel sells and operates it.
More about SuzyThis experience is for you if…
- You plan your trips around what you will eat
- You want prices shown before you order, never after
- You eat adventurously but like choosing your own spice level
- You prefer grazing at many small stops over one long sit down dinner
Make it yours
This route is a starting point, not a script. Mention any of these in the planner notes and we will shape the day around you:
A sample day, hour by hour
This is a sample plan, not a promise: your guide adjusts the order and the stops to the day, the weather and your appetite.
Start hungry. Your guide checks dietary needs and spice limits before the first bite.
The food street proper. Small plates, big smoke, prices shown before you order.
A steaming bowl where the old merchant houses glow. Slower pace, time to sit.
Sweet soups and soft cakes from the carts locals queue at after dinner.
End at the famous beer corner with a glass of fresh bia hoi, the proper Hanoi goodnight.
Where we meet
Thang Long Water Puppet Theatre, on Dinh Tien Hoang street by the lake
Your guide waits by the theatre ticket windows holding the Old Quarter Review card. The theatre is the tall building with the puppet banners, a two minute walk from Hang Be.
The exact address and a photo of the meeting spot come with your written quote from Bao Son Travel, so nobody hunts for a bare street number in the Old Quarter.
Honest answers, including the limits
Light rain does not stop the walk, the stalls cook under awnings and the quarter glows. If weather makes walking unsafe, Bao Son Travel rearranges the date with you in writing before the day.
Honestly, we advise against it. Old Quarter pavements are narrow and uneven, and a baby carrier is far easier than a stroller on this route.
Tell us in your inquiry, exactly what the allergy is. Your guide briefs every stop before you order, but street kitchens share woks and oil, so for severe allergies we will say plainly if a stop is not safe, and always carry your own medication.
About 1 kilometre in total, in short hops between stops, with sitting time at every tasting. Nobody has ever finished this walk tired, only full.
